3 Ways for Tweens to Participate in Random Acts of Kindness

Random Acts of Kindness for Tweens

Random acts of kindness are an amazing way for kids and tweens to get out of their own worlds and to give back. There are so many ways, both big and small that kids can get involved and brighten someone’s day.

Not sure where to start? Give these 3 random acts of kindness a try and start feeling the love!

Leave a note

This simple random act of kindness can be a lot of fun and is appropriate for kids aged 10+.

  • Grab a pen and/or markers and some paper.
  • Think of something fun to say that might brighten someone’s day. You can make it a silly joke, a message saying, “You’re awesome!” or maybeeven a little poem.
  • If you like, you can even add a dollar or two. 🙂
  • Place your note and/or money in an envelope.
  • Decorate your envelope and write something friendly on the front like, “Happy Wednesday!”
  • Create a few of these.

Head down to your neighborhood market or an area where there are lots of people, and either place them randomly on people’s windshields or perhaps even hand it to someone in person.

You’ll be amazed at how such a small act can bring a little joy!

Love letters

Random notes are a great way to make someone smile, but to really make an impact, why not send a letter to someone who really needs some support? This activity is ideal for olders kids aged 12+.

There are many organizations out there that collect letters and distribute them. These are 2 of our favorites

More Love Letters

This is an amazing organization where letters are collected for specific people going through difficult times. The people are from all over the world and ages range from kids to adults. https://moreloveletters.squarespace.com/the-letter-requests

Letters Project

This an another incredible organization which targets sick and/or hospitalized kids. You can write specific letters to kids going through really hard times http://www.lettersproject.org/

So grab a pen and think of something positive and inspiring. Each organization has specific guidelines on what’s appropriate to write, so be sure to check out each site for details.

Compliments Day

This exercise, although simple, does involve some mindfulness throughout the day. The beauty of this one, is that kids of all ages can participate.

  • Get the kids to think ahead about some ways to compliment. Let them know it can be as easy as complimenting something the person is wearing, to something more personal about someone.
  • Have them set a goal to give a certain amount of compliments in one day.
  • Make sure they keep track of when they give a compliment and what that compliment was. They can make a note on their phones if they have one, or simply on a piece of paper.

The results of random acts of kindness are amazing! Kids will gain so much, including:

  • A sense of fulfillment
  • A better appreciation for those around them
  • Gratitude for what they already have
  • Empathy towards others

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and make someone’s day! 🙂
